Volunteer Application

The Japanese Friendship Garden Society of San Diego invites you to make a difference in the community and your life by donating your time and efforts to the Garden. Volunteers are vital to the success of the Garden and are an integral part of the education program. They enable the Japanese Friendship Garden to thrive. Volunteer benefits are discounts on seminars and workshops, the volunteers' diner party, and more. There are many different opportunities available to participate involving varying degrees of hourly commitment.

Areas of Interest

Which volunteer opportunities below are you interested and do you think capable? (Please check all that apply)

Opportunities of Interest:

Docent (Docents lead tours through the Garden and are available to answer questions. They will be trained by Garden staff and other docents.)

(Garden watch volunteers help to educate visitors and protect the garden from damage by acting as polite, but assertive enforcers of the garden etiquette.)

(Outreach volunteers learn or have a base of knowledge in Japanese crafts, sports, cooking, games and/or culture and help to attend events or teach classes in the community on behalf of the garden.)

Exhibition Ambassadors (Exhibition Ambassadors interact with visitors and answer questions on the content and intent behind our exhibitions. Written materials and training are provided for individual exhibitions and scheduled as needed. They may be required to research about the background of each exhibit.)

Summer Camp Aides (Summer Camp Aides (18 years old and up) assist our teachers in the classroom for Summer Camp. They will be trained by Garden Staff before Camps.)

Gardener Assistants (Gardener Assistants are supervised by JFG gardeners. They will assist the gardeners to clean up the Garden, water the plants, or various duties under the gardeners' supervision.)

Office Assistants (Office Assistants work and support the Garden office staff. They will be trained and supervised by office staff.)

Register Assistants (Register Assistants work with out register to deal with art objects. They will be trained by the register.)

Event Assistants (Event Assistants are temporary volunteers for our seasonal/special events. Garden event staff will supervise and train them.)
