AREAS OF INTEREST
Docents lead educational tours throughout the Garden! If you're interested in Japanese culture and gardens, this is the best way to learn more about both! Docent training is held during the fall each year. For more information, please inquire at volunteer@niwa.org. Garden Assistants perform basic upkeep duties such as weeding, watering, sweeping, etc. Scheduling is flexible and prior gardening knowledge is not required. If you have more advanced or specialized knowledge of garden or facilities, please indicate your skill set in the comment box beneath the "Garden Assistant" checkbox. ALL OFFICE ASSISTANTS may be asked to do administrative work within their department and should be open to a variety of different tasks and projects. Office assistants thrive if they are self-motivated, creative, and willing to work on open-ended projects. Please note that office assistants generally do not have the opportunity to learn more about Japanese culture. Private Events Assistants should have prior experience in event coordinating and administrative work. Exhibits Assistants should have prior experience in museum studies or art. Art students are accepted. Special Events are temporary volunteers for our seasonal events, such as Cherry Blossom Festival and December Nights. You will be emailed as events arise. Internships are limited at the garden and are best suited for interns looking for general office experience.
