The Japanese Friendship Garden Society of San Diego invites you to make a difference in the community and your life by donating your time and efforts to the Garden. Volunteers are vital to the success of the Garden and are an integral part of the education program. They enable the Japanese Friendship Garden to thrive. Volunteer benefits are discounts on seminars and workshops, the volunteers' dinner party, and more. There are many different opportunities available to participate involving varying degrees of hourly commitment.

AREAS OF INTEREST
Docents lead tours through the Garden and are available to answer questions. They will be trained by Garden staff and other docents. Classes are required, 2014 classes have already begun. If you are interested, please check this box to be placed on the wait list to be notified of 2015 classes. Garden Ambassadors help to protect the garden, address guest concerns, and interact with the public on general garden information- training is provided. Flexible scheduling is available, with the highest need for volunteers in the afternoons Tuesdays, and Thursday-Sunday each week. A MINIMUM of 4 hours is required per month. This is a position for someone who is comfortable approaching new people. Gardener Assistants are supervised by JFG gardeners. They will assist the gardeners to clean up the Garden, water the plants, or various duties under the gardeners' supervision. A regular, consistent schedule and gardening knowledge are required. 2-4 shifts/month required. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Saturday mornings available. Office Assistants work and support the Garden office staff. They will be trained and supervised by office staff. Monday-Friday work day availability is needed. Gift shop interns are sought! Other administration, events, and accounting volunteer positions may be available. Registrar Assistants work with our registrar to deal with art objects. They will be trained by the registrar. These are sporadic projects, sometimes requiring a longer-term internship commitment. Event Assistants are temporary volunteers for our seasonal/special events. Garden event staff will supervise and train them. You will be emailed as events arise. As an applicant for a volunteer position with the Japanese Friendship Garden of San Diego, I realize that a thorough criminal background investigation is conducted to qualify me for volunteering. The Japanese Friendship Garden of San Diego may request that I show a valid photo ID and/or other identification information at the time of becoming a garden volunteer. I understand that volunteer placement is a selection process and not all applicants are accepted into the program. I also understand that the Japanese Garden reserves the right to place volunteers in the area that staff feels is best suited to both their skills and the needs of the Japanese Garden. In consideration of my voluntarism, I agree to conform to the rules and standards of the Japanese Garden. I further agree that my volunteer position can be terminated at will, with or without notice, at any time, either at my will or at the will of the Japanese Garden. I agree that this constitutes an integrated agreement with the respect to the at-will nature of my volunteer relationship, that it is final and binding and that there are no oral or collateral agreements regarding the issue. Furthermore, this application does not constitute, in any way, that I am a paid employee of the Japanese Friendship Garden of San Diego, nor its affiliates and I am solely a non-paid volunteer of the Japanese Garden by my own will and understanding. Nor does this document act as promise of future paid employment at the Japanese Garden.
