Call for artists!

The Japanese Friendship Garden & Museum invites artists to submit original artwork inspired by World Bee Day. Selected works will debut at the 2026 World Bee Day event at JFGM and will be exhibited from May 18 through July 21 in the display case at the Inamori Pavilion.

Submissions are open to local and national artists, both professional and amateur. Artists working in a wide range of media are encouraged to apply.


Timeline and Details

  • Submission Deadline: April 12, 2026, at 11:59 PM (PST)

  • Acceptance Notification: April 16, 2026

  • Artwork Delivery: April 23–24, 2026

    • Artists may deliver accepted works in person at the JFGM Office

  • Exhibition Dates: May 1, 2026 – July 21, 2026

    • Exhibition will be open during regular JFGM public hours

    • Dates are subject to change due to special events

  • Deinstallation and Artwork Pick-Up: July 23–24, 2026

    • Pick-up will take place at the JFGM Office between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM

Submission Requirements

  • Artwork must not exceed 24 inches x 36 inches, including the frame.

  • Submission does not guarantee selection for exhibition. Artists will be notified by the JFGM Exhibit Coordinator if their work is selected.

  • All artwork must be ready to hang upon delivery.

  • Each submitted work must be original and must not have been previously exhibited at JFGM.

  • Each artwork must include a label with the following information:

    • Artist’s name

    • Title of the artwork

    • Date created

    • Medium

    • Dimensions

  • Selected works must be printed and framed, matted, or mounted, and fully prepared for display.

    • Unframed works will be displayed using clips, which may result in potential damage to the artwork.

  • Each artist may submit up to three (3) artworks.

Art Submission Process

Please email the following materials to registrar@niwa.org:

  • Artist’s first and last name

  • Phone number

  • Photograph(s) of the artwork

    • File names must include the artist’s last name and a number (e.g., Smith1, Smith2)

  • Dimensions of each submitted artwork

The JFGM Exhibit Coordinator will notify artists of their submission status.
All required information must be submitted for artwork to be considered for exhibition.

Additional Information

  • Artists are responsible for all shipping and transportation costs.

  • All submitted artwork must be appropriate for all audiences, as determined by JFGM.
