Japanese Friendship Garden (JFG) is exciting to have an opportunity to partner with the historical Coronado Library to exhibit “Iwai 祝: Expressions of Seasonal Celebrations in Japan” to introduce Japanese festivals and rituals through JFG ‘s cultural collections.

In Japan, festivals are held every season to pray for good health, good harvest, and prosperity of descendants. Introduced from China in the Nara period (710-794), the five seasonal festivals are called "Go-Sekku" and include Hinamatsuri, Children's Day, and Tanabata. In addition to these festivals, special decorations arecreated for celebrations such as New Year's Day and weddings.
