FAQ and Guest Conduct

Costume Code of Conduct
Costumes are encouraged and are an important part of the Yokai Masquerade. As the Japanese Friendship Garden Museum (JFGM) is a family-oriented organization, all costumes must be safe, respectful, and appropriate for audiences of all ages.

To help ensure a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all attendees, participants are expected to observe the following guidelines:

  • Costumes must not contain obscene, sexually explicit, hateful, discriminatory, or excessively graphic content.

  • Costumes and props must not create a safety hazard for the wearer, other participants, or spectators.

  • Prop weapons must be clearly identifiable as non-functional and may be subject to inspection by JFGM staff or security.

  • Costumes should allow the wearer to move safely through the Garden without obstructing or endangering others.

  • Participants wearing masks or face coverings may be asked to briefly remove them for identification or security purposes.

  • Costumes should be respectful of cultural traditions and avoid content that could reasonably be considered offensive or inappropriate.

JFGM reserves the right to deny participation or request modification of any costume that does not meet these guidelines or that is otherwise deemed unsafe, disruptive, or inconsistent with the family-friendly nature of the event. Decisions made by event staff regarding costume suitability are final.
