Kintsugi Workshop - Bring Your Own Plate
In this hands-on workshop, guests are invited to bring a broken plate and learn the traditional Japanese art of kintsugi, the practice of repairing ceramics with gold. Guided by Japanese Friendship Garden staff, participants will carefully reassemble their piece while learning the philosophy behind this centuries-old technique.
Kintsugi teaches us to see beauty in imperfection and to honor an object’s history rather than hide its flaws. By repairing what is broken, we celebrate resilience, transformation, and mindful making. No prior experience is necessary. This workshop is open to beginners and curious makers alike.
To ensure a safe and successful experience for everyone, please follow these guidelines when selecting your plate:
Guests will bring one broken plate
The plate must be broken into no more than 5 pieces
Maximum size: 12 inches (length) × 12 inches (width) × 4 inches (height)
Plates should be clean and dry
Please do not bring pieces with sharp shards or missing fragments
Please bring a facemask if you are sensitive to the smell of glue
All repair materials and tools will be provided. JFGM staff will assist throughout the process.
