Private Proposals
Pick Your Spot…
From the Earth Bridge in the Lower Garden, all the way to the Upper Garden Koi Deck, the Japanese Friendship Garden & Museum has multiple spots to choose from for your special moment. Each spot is truly unique in its own way.
The Earth Bridge:
The Earth Bridge is our most popular spot for proposals. A bridge with no railings, surrounded by a beautiful koi pond, an abundance of flowers year-round, a willow tree (in bloom May - December), and cherry blossoms (typically in bloom March - first week of April). When you get down on one knee, your photographer will capture our famous angle: you two on the bridge and your reflection in the water, surrounded by the lush scenery.
Garden of Enlightenment: Kannon Bosatsu Statue
The Goddess of Mercy - The Kannon Bosatsu statue was handmade in the 1700s, and acquired by the Japanese Friendship Garden & Museum in 2017. For more in-depth information, click here.
San Diego mornings are something special.. and so is this area. Walk your way through the Lower Garden, over the Earth Bridge, and up to the Garden of Enlightenment. With a perfect aisle guiding you up to the statue and another flowing waterfall, you might forget you’re in the middle of the city.
Upper Garden Koi Deck
With wisteria around the months of March and April, or green foliage throughout the rest of the year, the Upper Garden Koi Deck is a serene spot. With a waterfall and show quality koi fish, this might be the perfect spot for you and your partner.
